Adhesive
A polyurethane based adhesive is used for maximum adhesion and filling properties.
Recommended Adhesives
UK & Europe - Simson ISR 70-03
Asia, Australia & New Zealand - Bostik Seal n Flex FC
USA & Canada - Bostik 1100 FS
Expected usage: 30-38 metres per 600ml sausage
|
Surface Preparation
- Ensure that the surface is dry
- Remove any raised obstacles with a wire brush or hand grinder
- Brush clean of dust and dirt
- If a concrete sealant has been used the reaction of the adhesive with concrete sealant should be tested
- Should sealant not bond with adhesive i) refrain from applying sealant until step products are installed or ii) grind sealant back to original concrete
|
Cutting
- The step edge contrast strips are easily cut to size with a manual guillotine
- Mark the step edge contrast strip for cutting
- Place into the guillotine and invert the strip so that it is cut while upside down, this will eliminate potential bruising of the anti-slip material
|
|
Alignment on Steps
- Mark 50mm (2 inches) from the side edge of the top step
- Mark 50mm (2 inches) from the side edge of the bottom step
- Place a string line between the marks on the top and bottom steps to ensure that the strip on each step will be correctly aligned
|
 |
Applying Adhesive
- Cut the end of the nozzle to allow a 3mm bead
- Lay the step edge contrast strip face down on the step
- Apply a 3mm (1/8 inch) bead in a wave pattern over the full length of the underside of the strip. The bead should be flattened with the nozzle as pictured
- Keep the adhesive clear of the outside edges of the strip
|
|
Applying to Step
- Line up the step edge contrast strip between the string lines
- Align the strip with the edge of the step approximately 5mm to 10mm from the front step edge
- Press to ensure even contact between the adhesive and the surface of the step
- Use your hands to apply firm downward pressure
|
|
Curing of Adhesive
- Prevent the strips from being walked on for a minimum of 3 hours
- Any excess adhesive that spills out the side of the strip can be cut away after a minimum of 3 hours curing
- Allow adhesive to cure for 8 to 12 hours before allowing public access
- Curing times will be effected by temperature so a test installation should be carried out to allow for specific local conditions
